Subject: freebsd fdisk won't recognize my disk geometry

I'm trying out Freebsd for the first time, and have run into an installation
snag. The fdisk program doesn't like the drive geometries provided by the
bios.

The bios reports the following for my two drives:

disk1 (ad0):
WDC WD400EB-00CPF0
40022 Mb
cyl: 19158
head: 16
precomp: 0
landing zone: 19157
sector: 255

disk2 (ad1):
Maxtor 6Y080P0
81 Gb
cyl: 39236
head: 16
precomp: 0
landing zone: 39235
sector: 255

freebsd fdisk for ad0 gives me a warning:
A geometry of 77545/16/63 for ad0 is incorrect. Using a more likely geometry,
etc.

The "more likely" geometry it selects is:
4865/255/63

for ad1:
A geometry of 158816/16/63 for ad1 is incorrect. Etc.

The more likely geometry is:
9964/255/63

If I use the geometry command to try to change the geometry to what bios
reports I get the same error, and it goes back to the more likely geometry.

Any idea what's going on here?
