I am a novice with the FreeBSD 4.1 software. I was in the process of newly installing my software. I was configuring the X Server during the initial or first installation when my system froze on me. I then cold boot or turned off the computer off and then on again. I am using the BSD Desktop Edition-UNIX OS version 4.1. I need some assistance in getting the software running. I am able to boot and I received these system messages: Mounting root from ufs :/dev/ad1sa3 WARNING: /mnt was not properly mounted Swapon: adding /dev/ad1s3b as swap device Automatic boot in progress /dev/ad1s3a: LINK COUNT FILE 1=6273 owner = root MODE=20640 /dev/ad1s3a: SIZE=0 MTIME = Nov 30 16:06 2000 COUNT 1 SHOULD BE 2 /dev/ad1s3a: LINK COUNT INCREASING /dev/ad1s3a: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY Automatic file system check failed...help! Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh: After reading the boot message above I then proceeded to enter(E) the following command and received(R) the system's response: (E) /stand/sysinstall (R) Error opening terminal: cons25 (E) mkdir /usr/var (R) mkdir: /usr/var: Read-only file system (E) tar cf - .1 (cd /usr/var; tar xf - ) (R) tar: not found cd: can't cd to /usr/var tar: not found Please reply ASAP Regards Tunjie L.
