I noticed this in a Makfile today.  The resulting string contains 
escaped quotes, newlines, etc.  Is this standard?

[dan@polo:~/ports/java/jdk15] $ make -V IGNORE

http://www.sun.com/software/java2/download.html\n in a web browser 
and follow the \"Download\" link for the\n \"JDK 5.0\".  You will be

scsl.zip and the\n SCSL Binaries file, jdk-1_5_0-bin-scsl.zip .\n\n 
In addition, please download the patchset, bsd-jdk15-patches-
2.tar.bz2, from\n 
http://www.eyesbeyond.com/freebsddom/java/jdk15.html.\n\n Please 
place the downloaded file(s) in /usr/ports/distfiles \n and restart 
the build.\n\n
