IF you're using /bin/sh, then you need to assign and export values as separate operations: FOO=3Dbar export FOO Also, root's shell is not /bin/sh or anything of that ilk by default. It is /bin/csh aka /bin/tcsh, and for that the syntax is: setenv FOO bar Cheers, Matthew --=20 Dr Matthew J Seaman MA, D.Phil. 7 Priory Courtyard Flat 3 PGP: http://www.infracaninophile.co.uk/pgpkey Ramsgate Kent, CT11 9PW --------------enigD29A6AAE46B0DDE8860ED175 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.2 (FreeBSD) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFzbwt8Mjk52CukIwRCBsxAJkBjCSrKqe0rh4dw2NjjlHj0433YQCfVRLE ECVhNmnuf9bKMU2LpAPdCIM= =YIZb -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enigD29A6AAE46B0DDE8860ED175--
