One of my clients needs to upgrade OpenSSL on their FreeBSD 8.3 systems to the latest version. This is easily accomplished using the port. However: They do not want a 2nd installation of OponSSL under /usr/local, they want to totally replace the existing base system version. There are some ports such as mail/sendmail that work that way, and others such as security/openssh-portable that have a config option [OVERWRITE_BASE] for this purpose. Is there a reason why the OpenSSL port does not have the ability to replace the base system version? is there an obvious way to do this that i am missing? and finally, if i were to submit patches adding an OVERWRITE_BASE option to the port, would someone be willing to commit them? thanks, tom
