Anything prior to FreeBSD 4.6 is not supported. >--- >Piero >piero at poprostu.pl The answer is: No. I am running FreeBSD Release 5.4, new install, and get the same message (obviously with a different host name, etc...) when I try to run gnome. Actually, when I try to run it from .xinitrc using startx, nothing happens (gnomewise, that is), period. When I get into X, I can run "exec gnome-session" or "exec gnome-session &" in a window, and I get gnome, but I also get the error message. Most notably, I get my ip from my ISP using dhcp, and am on an internal network with bogus ips provided from my router (eg. 192.168.1.100, etc...). Yes, I put the computer name in the etc/hosts file. But I am pretty sure the fact that I am using DHCP and a bogus IP has something to do with my problem. And I think I just disabled my network interface on FreeBSD by accident by trying to run the networking setup interface in Gnome. That should take a few to fix, but I don't think I need help with that. I am a little inexperienced with xwindows, but quite experienced with FreeBSD. But I do need help trying to figure out how to fix the error message in gnome, and it isn't a problem with being up to date. I promise. I would prefer a solution that didn't involve disabling FAM in gnome-vfs, for example. Thank you, Karen Chapdelaine
