First, I wanted to correct a typo - it is -DMAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE (no "S"). Secondly, as of today, this bug must still be present, because I couldn't build devel/openjdk6 without the -DMAKE_JOBS_UNSAFE on my amd64 Intel i5 computer.
