Locked is when the screen is black and the device can=E2=80=99t be used. =
 Unlocked is when you have the device such that you can tap on the apps. =
 =E2=80=9CLogged in=E2=80=9D might be another way of saying it.  When =
gphoto tries to connect, the iOS device (at least the newer ones) will =
ask you if you want to =E2=80=9Ctrust this computer=E2=80=9D.  If you =
say =E2=80=9Cdon=E2=80=99t trust=E2=80=9D, then the iOS device will =
report no photos on the device.  If you choose to =E2=80=9Ctrust this =
computer=E2=80=9D, then the photos will show up.=
