ESC [ B   is the VT100 command for =E2=80=9Ccursor down=E2=80=9D  =
(Apparently, you=E2=80=99re not running a VT100-style console?)

So this is not simple gibberish, but rather it looks like something is =
trying to scroll the screen.  Is it possible that some other program was =
generating output to the screen at the same time?
