This is handled by the ports framework which adds the following to the manifest during 'make package': "scripts": { "post-install": "/usr/local/sbin/apxs -e -a -n dnssd /usr/local/mod_dnssd= .so", "pre-deinstall":"/usr/local/sbin/apxs -e -A -n dnssd /usr/local/mod_dnssd= .so" } so if this doesn't work properly, there is something wrong with apxs.
