Can you put the following line into the /boot/loader.conf?

firewire_load="YES"

I found a race between fwohci and firewire initialization recently.
If you load firewire.ko manually after boot, it could happen
that fwohci tries to attach firewire bus before the firewire driver
is loaded.

The type of the OHCI chip doesn't matter for this problem.
