You have to make sure you read the .hints kernel config file and set the appropriate hints for arge0/arge1. Unfortunately there's no support for the bridge/switch PHYs in FreeBSD at the moment and so the evil workaround is to set the relevant PHY mask bits so the right PHY bits get enabled and the ports work.
