I wanted to wrap my head around a few things. Typically music tools on Linux and FreeBSD uses Jack to connect up all the devices. The question is do you have to use jack? At first I liked jack because I can connect up all the things with the pretty GUI and connections but setting up Jack seems a bit cumbersome. Can I work with just OSS and Alsa and still do all the typical stuff midi, connecting devices together?
