Then you want to convert your build jail setup to use ports-mgmt/poudriere. That gives you the best of all worlds: individually configure and tweak each port, build binary packages in bulk, use pkg to install/upgrade on destination machines. BSDNow video podcast #2 even includes a nice tutorial and overview of how it works.
