Hi all! Here's something that's got me puzzled! I'm trying to install from 4.3 CD set onto an old PC. It will be a gateway server. After boot I begin with installation, and the dmesg output starts appearing on screen. After probing all the PCI slots the PC appears to hang, and there she sits for about half an hour. Then it continues as normal and seems to run just fine. The PCI slots appear to probe OK, because the video card and intel ethernet card are both correctly identified. Then it pauses, and the next device scanned is the Floppy Disk Controller. Comparing the screen with my dmesg.boot on my other server here, I notice that the 'miibus' is associated with each network card during a successful boot, but this does not appear on the screen before the problem PC 'hangs'. I'm not sure if that is significant. I've tried booting from CD1, CD2 and the boot floppies I have, and all give exactly the same result. BTW: The PC in question still has NT4 on the HDD, and that's booting fine. I hate to say it, but that's the way it is I'm afraid! The PC is a Pentium MMX 233 Mhz, Award BIOS 4.51, 96 MB memory. If there is any other pertinent hardwar info I should disclose, please let me know. Patrick.
