-----Original Message----- From: ANTHONY ZOULOUFOS [mailto:ant_zoul@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2000 3:23 PM To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: questions There are a few questions I would like to ask and have answered if possible. >> Can someone set the security of files on a unix >> (FreeBSD) server directly from a windows machine, >> which is networked with it? (how?). Yes. He could telnet into it and make any changes he was authorized to make. Windows has a telnet client, awful as it may be. >> How can someone see the free space on his disk >> (+percentage)? With the "df" command, which could also be run from telnet >> What is the difference between a text file ftp'd with >> binary or ascii. (what are the actual differences ? ) If it really is all text, there wouldn't be any difference. >> If you were hacking a unix or FreeBSD system, which >> files would you change permissions on, and what would >> these permission be? A big if - it would all depend on what I wanted to do. If I wanted to destroy it, and if I could get logged on as root, all I would have to do is "rm -rf /". (DON'T try this unless you mean it!) If you can't log on as root, there is far less damage you can do without lots of expertise. >> How big in octets is a music cd? I am no expert, but I think they are the same as data CDs - about 650,000,000 bytes/octets. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo!
