It doesn't compile anything. It's essentially the same process as installing one of the FreeBSD packages. Except, of course, you get access to all of the various knobs and twiddles that let you make it work exactly the way you want. I was informing you as the maintainer of record for that port that here are the things I found wrong with the it in Freebsd 6.0 & 6.1. I don't see how what you wrote addresses the fact that the phpMyAdmin port does not allow choose between php4 / php5 & mysql4 /mysql5, or that the pkg version is outdated. What about answering my question about fixing it? If I was a an overly sensitive British guy I could mis-read what you wrote as saying go fork yourself.
