Thank you but there still is a problem: I did tar -xvfz backup.tar.gz and it gave me following: "can't open z : Nu such file or directory" It seems that system doesn't recognize z as an option but as a filename All I could do was tar -xf backup.tar.gz but it stuffed the target folder with unusable files and folders. Thay had no size and were named using random characters like that yyyy,,:"[[[jksdgb@444% I also tried to unzip the files through X Window but it was not a good idea, I guess funky!
