Tried to ask this on the security list, but
no bites. Maybe someone can help...

I had a user on the other day, let's call them
foo. When I typed 'w', the results of the
command went something like this:
w: /dev//foo No such file or directory.

So, was this user cracking my system? Is this
a bug? I've beat my head against the proverbial
wall trying to figure out how it could happen, even
tried to reproduce it but to no avail.

Thanks for help/pointers/clues!
