Just upgraded to new version of ppp on a 2.1.7 box. took a bit but finally tweaked the ppp.conf file enough so that it starts as a daemon using the -auto -alias <label> But when I to get mail, or use lynx etc I see the modem light flash and this is what I get in the log: Dec 16 13:11:41 mybsd ppp[16903]: tun0: Phase: PPP Started. Dec 16 13:23:44 mybsd ppp[16932]: Warning: DialModem: login failed. Dec 16 13:23:44 mybsd ppp[16932]: Phase: Modem: Connect time: 5 secs: 0 octets in, 0 octets out Dec 16 13:23:44 mybsd ppp[16932]: Phase: total 0 bytes/sec Dec 16 13:23:44 mybsd ppp[16932]: Phase: Enter pause (30) for redialing. Dec 16 13:24:14 mybsd ppp[16932]: Phase: Redialing timer expired. Dec 16 13:24:14 mybsd ppp[16932]: Phase: Connected! The Connect! is bogus. It doesnt connect and the other tty's say dial-failed. PPP starts ok but it wont dial the modem. I have pretty much the same as my old ppp.conf file. I'm using the old ppp right now but would like to try and get the latest version running. Any ideas on why ppp wont dial the phone? It flashes a modem light or two but it wont work. Thanks.
