It is very very stable and will give you access to many precompiled up-to-date software packages. If you don't kneed the newest drivers only available in 3.x-RELEASE, it may be a good choice. One small disadvantage is that the support for the a.out binary format used before 3.x-RELEASE will decrease within the ports collection (if you want to compile software from the ports collection by yourself in the future).=20 3.0-RELEASE gives you access to some new drivers (e.g. Adaptec 7880 SCSI on-board controller) and uses the ELF binary format. It is a more experimental release; and not all the precompiled packages and ports of 2.2.8-R are available in 3.0-RELEASE.=20 Regards // // Konrad Heuer ____ ___ _____= __=20 // Gesellschaft f=FCr wissenschaftliche / __/______ ___ / _ )/ __= / _ \ // Datenverarbeitung mbH G=D6ttingen / _// __/ -_) -_) _ |\ \/= // / // Am Fa=DFberg, D-37077 G=D6ttingen /_/ /_/ \__/\__/____/___= /____/=20 // Deutschland (Germany) ----- The Power to Serve ----= - // http://www.freebsd.org // kheuer@gwdu60.gwdg.de // To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
