Actually, all recursive executions of it need to be -x too. The easiest way (if there's no environment variable for it, I don't recall), is to put "set -x" at the top of MAKEDEV. This will help, and then I'll understand much more. Thanks. I have a feeling it might be improper optimization breaking expr...
