run samba on the host machine..
it can see both nets and will take over browse-master. it should
tell all the machines about each other. 
then just runn a routed (not bridged) (host?) network for the 
vmware  networking.

(please check this with someone who knows samba.. I'd suggest
jra@samba.org (CC'd))
