I just got my 4.3CD's in the mail. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a newbee nor am I an expert, but 4.3 is the pits compared to previous versions. I have had the same computer/hardware for three years. I have installed various flavors of Linux on my system w/o any problems. I have installed FBSD 3.5/4.0/4.1/4.2 w/o any problems. Now 4.3 is creating tons of problems. The biggest is constant system freezes during the install. All total it took me over 8 hours to get 4.3 installed over a period of 2 days !! A lot of my hardware was not and is not recognized ( mouse, sound, etc. ). I never ever had any problems like this with versions 3.5 thru 4.2. I don't know what is going on but in my opinion 4.3 just went down hill. Certain commands don't work either. "top" produces a "no table found" error. "pkg_add" for windowmaker took 25 minutes!! What a dog. "pkg_add" for the XFree86 4.0... server actual freezes my system to the point that nothing short of a "hard reboot" works. Tonight I'm going to wipe 4.3 and re-install 4.2. The 4.2 install should take under 30 minutes, at least that's what it took the last time. At least I'll have a working system. Maybe my dogs would like to have my 4.3 "frizbees". -- -=[cwa]=- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
