It's just that XFree86 supports it. Only in 2D. I don't know of a ATI FreeBSD or linux driver otherwise. Whatever ATI said on their website is principlewise I guess. How helpful they're actually about the open source driver is another issue. So one should never expect full support when it comes to Xfree86 case. Xfree86 has deeper problems itself. In my opinion they shouldn't waste time trying to support each and every card but implement true transparency, better font rendering and improve efficiency first. If I were to run linux, XFree86's support (via nv driver) would be worthless because I'd have an Nvidia card running perfectly on its linux nvidia driver.
