I bought an external IDE enclosure that connects via firewire. 
It works fine with any IDE drive (CD-RW, HDD, whatever).  They
run about 50-60$ last time I checked, and add another 175$+ for
a 200GB+ HDD.  I haven't had any problems with this setup.
