Schools are now teaching computer basics and beyond whereas 10 or 15 years ago the only thing many schools had to offer had to do with punchcards. As the current generation moves through these classes they're going to learn very quickly that crashes are not something that's normal for computers to do and either M$ will have to fix their OS's or more and more people will migrate to something else. FreeBSD is one very viable option, as is linux. I'm not talking about games, either. Office suites, videoconferencing, web and java are also important factors.
