I run a Mac too (OSX) and have used Eudora for about 6 years now. For a year I was using the netscape email client when my box was running slackware (before I saw the FBSD light...) and still only had a pokey 66mhz powermac. When I got a G4 I went right back to Eudora. >some port of AOL Instant Messenger (I can't believe I'm putting this here), Gaim rules. I have FBSD desktops at home and work. I run gaim whenever I'm at the computer. The really cool thing is that you can run both AOL and Yahoo's IM at the same time. It has tabbed windows for each conversation. The folks developing Gaim are doing a great job. >MP3 players/ Xmms. What more could you want? :) It'll play MP3's, ogg vorbis, CDs, and radioparadise.com. :) >converters, I run ripit (/usr/ports/audio/ripit) to handle making MP3s from CDs. > web browsers that actually keep up to date with the standards, and >anything else commonly used ? Mozilla 1.0 has become my default FBSD browser. It's pretty impressive these days. I ran KDE for the last few years and was very happy with it. I tried Gnome a few times but could never really cotton to it. Recently I tried out XFCE and have really come to like it. I would imagine that it would run quickly on a laptop since it's pretty lightweight. Jpilot works very well in keeping my palm pilot synched. Good luck!
