Are you sure? At least, std* are there even if fdescfs is absent:

marck@castor:/FreeBSD/rinet/src.9/sys> kldstat -v | grep fdesc
marck@castor:/FreeBSD/rinet/src.9/sys> ls /dev/fd
0  1  2
