I am trying to understand the impact of distributing ports with sources on building and packaging base with pkg. If I understand correctly, some ports, when installed with pkg, extract sources, which then supposed to be compiled with the kernel. For instance, drm-current-kmod extracts lots of files into /usr/local/sys/modules/ Would that mean those ports have to be installed on the host that is used to build the kernel and world, which are then packaged with 'make packages' into pkg-base?
