Hi,
I'd like to suggest to put in the porter's handbook, bsd licenced alternat=
ives to commonly ported gnu-based dependencies=2E
=C2=A0
For instance, to suggest the [radio] option of "OPENSSL" when the program =
calls on "GNUTLS"=2E It would be great to optionally also have listed in th=
e handbook, other alternatives to OPENSSL and GNUTLS like NSS, POLARSSL and=
WOLFSSL=2E If anyone is unsure of what I'm refering to, or the description=
of the Makefile code, please do a make config and see the "Makefile" on "/=
usr/ports/ftp/curl" to see the possible options=2E
=C2=A0
Also, I've tried to say this before, but perhaps miscommunicated or been m=
isunderstood=2E DEVD is the bsd replacement of gnu's HAL=2E Type make confi=
g and see the Makefile in /usr/ports/x11-servers/xorg-server, to see the op=
tion of DEVD or HAL=2E This suggestion to include this is because program d=
ependencies still depend on HAL with no option for (native) DEVD=2E

I'm not sure which section of the porter's handbook these suggestions woul=
d go in=2E Perhaps a part of this can also be mentioned the Linuxism's sect=
ion=2E It is important since many dependencies are ported from gnu/linux, w=
ithout explanation of their equivalent bsd programs for porters to make the=
best use of it=2E I hope this makes sense=2E Thank you in advance=2E

I've tried to send this email earlier, but it showed blank in the daily di=
gest=2E
