The real reason for wanting flashing lights, of course, is that they
look cool.

Also, internal modems usually don't have a speaker, so they don't make
cool noises during handshake either.

What I miss most now that I've switched to ISDN, though, is the
satisfying "click" of the relay whenever you dial or hang up.
