I tried the patch as you suggest.  The device is now found, but it does not
function.

pcm0:play:0: play interrupt timeout, channel dead

dmesg lists:

pcm0: <Dell EMU10K1> port 0xdc40-0xdc5f irq3 at device 9.0 on pci2
