Hi again, I can now re-phrase my question.

burncd -f /dev/acd0c -s x data y fixate
(where
    x = speed, up to 16
    y = filename, using a good 140M .ISO
)
always produces the error
acd0=READ_TOC-ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=24 ascq=00 error=04

Sometimes it writes a good CD anyway, more often a coaster or nothing and no
prompt back. FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE, Plextor W1610A burner, command given by
root.

Any idea what this means?

Thanks in advance, Steve
