The "appropriate" netmask for that subnet.

For example:

IP: 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 (primary IP, /24 mask)
Alias: 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.255 (same subnet, /32 mask)
Alias: 192.168.100.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 (different subnet, /24 mask)
Alias 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 (different subnet, /8 mask)
