The gateway has a bleeding edge (-current) ppp.  You could try 
downloading the latest ppp and building the libalias from there - see 
if that helps (you'll have to rebuild your local natd after 
installing the new libalias).

However, I can't recall anything that may be causing this WRT 
libalias :-/
