I recently added
options IDE_DELAY=2000
on all IDE kernels I managed. The only problem with this short delay
so far was an undetected drive in an unusual configuration:
The jumper block was defective and the drive could only be jumpered as
slave. A 2s delay was too short to detect this drive without a master
drive attached at the same bus.

So in my case, there isn't even a speed improvement during boot.

But I will soon test the new code on my laptop: The drive has problem if
DMA is enabled. I hope the new code will give me some speed improvement
in this case.

Daniel
