Note that in all but fairly recent FreeBSD releases, this isn't enough.
You must explicitly set the the state to "off" instead of "on" in the
appropriate line in /etc/ttys, or init won't notice it's gone.  Once
you've restarted init after making this change, you can delete the line
from the file.  I think it was Alfred Perlstein who fixed this recently.
