Thought I had tried this...

FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT #0: Wed Jan 10 11:00:55 CET 2001
    root@brian:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/THINKPAD

is fine. I am currently doing a

cvs co -D"2001-01-30" src/sys

I will report on this later.
