I think this depends on what the problem is. From the sounds of it, they have a version which works on some operating systems (I'm guessing Linux :). Merely fixing this to work on FreeBSD (for the definition of "working" already described by the test case) doesn't seem to me to present a problem. OTOH, implementing a feature or fixing a feature may well present a problem.
