Indeed.  The current contents are mostly a cop out:

: Each of these related functions use the fmt parameter in the same
: manner as printf(3).  However, printf(9) adds two other conversion
: specifiers.

This has always been incorrect, since for instance printf(9) has
never supported floating-point conversion specifiers.
