Depending on the port options/knobs, you can get a cyclic dependency. I can't remember exactly what I did to get out of it, but I just went through the relevant "make config" screens and removed an option. I think it was one that made gutenprint depend some part of gimp. I rarely use gimp, and never print from it, so I didn't look too closely.
