To submitter:  Are you able to retest with FreeBSD 6.3 or 7.0 and see
if this is still an issue?

Can I also please confirm:  With the GENERIC kernel from the 6.2-RELEASE
CDs, the only way you can get the machine to boot is to disable ACPI?
And recompiling the kernel with SMP is sufficient to get it working with
ACPI enabled?
