this is probably because the filesystem has not been fsck'd - "fsck
/dev/da0s1a" or whichever device. if you get really stuck and can't get
it to fsck you can try forcing the mount as read-write with -f but if
you have to do that it is probably best to backup the data and write it
to a new filesystem.

man mount
man fsck
