it says:

"This is the root filesystem. Every other filesystem will be mounted 
somewhere under this one. 128 MB is a reasonable size for this filesystem."

I believe that 128 MB is adequate for FreeBSD 6.3 and lower, but not 
enough for FreeBSD 7.0.

It also recommends 256 MB for /var. This is ample for running FreeBSD, 
but insufficient for installing it.
