My vote is on memory. I've seen this on a system without *enough* memory -- when trying to do a= 6.x to 7.0 upgrade compilation died in that exact place. Turned out that= =20 server hadn't been configured with a swap partition when it was original= ly=20 built, and adding swap cured the problem.
