I'm also keen to see distribute replace setuptools

I have a py-distribute WIP for making it PREFIX safe, as I came across a 
couple of hurdles when 'port test'ing. Hope it helps:

Note: I also had/have setuptools patched out of bsd.python.mk as a 
BUILD_DEPENDS when PYTHON_SUFFIX  < 30
