This is always my recommendation, and I recommend it more strongly if you've only just installed the system and discovered you accidentally installed the wrong version. Installing FreeBSD takes ten minutes. Learning enough about FreeBSD to reliably convert a system in-place without making any mistakes is obviously going to take much longer; I'd be willing to bet that even for an expert, converting a single system in-place would still take longer than reinstalling.
