Of course, AMD chips are 100% intel compatible. The AthlonMP platform is, in 
general, the best performing dual processor server x86 platform available 
(and much cheaper than dual Xeons)
The Tyan Thunder requires a custom (expensive) power supply, and it supports 
only 66MHz (not 64-bit) PCI slots, so you may want to hold off a little 
while until MBs hased on the new 760MP arrive--they can use standard (still 
expensive) server class power supplies and will support 64-bit/66MHz PCI as 
well.
