I did too, but eventually I ran out of time and motivation. I just
couldn't keep up, and had other things to do.

Why do people respond at all? Most people on this planet are not the
sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what I mean. (Look at
Microsoft's sales figures.) 

Bear in mind that in the world of postal junk mail, a response rate of
1.5 to 2 percent is considered phenomenal. I know this is true, 'cause I
read it on the net :^)  Postal mail actually costs the sender money and
ultimately is traceable, but email is practically free and provides ways
for the spammer to conceal its identity. It seems that if they get only
a couple of sales, then the campaign becomes "worthwhile" to them. 

Sad but true.
